Artist's Statement
I find sources of inspiration in
basic archetypal forms, such as...
The Arch,
"A basic form in nature and of strength in man made structures, it enables
shared support, access and passage".
Crystal Forms,
"The influence of the crystal is seen in many of humanities creations, they
surround us as we venture through life, the shape of a many faceted roof,
the beveled glass window, in the cut crystal vase, the wonderful sculpted art".
The Radius and Curve,
"Provides a means of softening transitions, suggesting , purpose, smoothness
and sensuality, for me it is a feminine form".
The Circle and Sphere,
"The circle is strongest form in nature, second only to the sphere, more than
strength alone, these forms represent the circle of life, birth, continuity and
death".
The
Mountain Form and the Triangle, "A primal symbol of strength, power, growth and change,
up-thrust and eventual erosive demise"
Plant Life,
" The textures and forms of vegetation suggest the diversity and complexity of
nature while instilling a sense of beauty, order and simplicity".
The Spiral,
early humans gazed into the heavens and saw stars in the form of spiral nebulae
and placed representations on animal skins and on cave walls, in her hand the
swirl of the seed pod provoked creation of textile and jewelry, the spiral form
inspired occult and spiritual symbols, modern man finds his genetic information
organized in a double helix - intimations of greater unseen forces, movement,
expansion and order - "Above all forms the spiral speaks to me."
"When working in wood and other
materials I snatch glimpses of the basic ingredients, the stuff from which we
all emerge, as I shape, sand, smooth and burnish, bring to form and finish,
the materials speak of water, of stone and bone, wood; movement, torrents of energy
into form and fulfillment".
William Bouné
Artist's Profile ~ The Journey!
From youth Bill's
interests involved
fine arts and creative pursuits.
Throughout all
levels of schooling his fellow students referred to him as "the
artist." There still exists an oil painting of an
uncle's backyard done at age six. His early heroes, beyond his father and auto racers, were
artists, scientists and especially artist/scientists. His pen and
ink drawings of the old clock tower at Sacramento High School, where he was the
President of the Beau Arts Club, were displayed at the school for many
years.
Education in the Arts continued at Sacramento City College
with an Associate of Arts degree. A Bachelor of Arts degree, with Honors, was
earned at California State University California Sacramento, with a
specialization in Sculpture. Unique Redwood
sculptures were created,
one piece Embracing Spirals was displayed at the California State Fair.
Other art media mastered, while being
schooled, were:
Ceramics - Raku, clay
sculpture, thrown and hand built, glaze calculations and formulation;
Printmaking - Intaglio, wood block, creative variations; Drawing
and painting - pencil, pen and
ink, charcoal, chalk, oil pastels, water colors, guache, acrylics, oils and
mixed media.
An eye for design
coupled with technical skills developed through an
arts education is applied to
varied projects as an intentional focus. The relationships of form, weight, balance, composition, texture, hue, contrast and intensity
are considered in all work. An intense dedication to aesthetic values, to the project and the patron
are equivalent, integrated into action with
little conscious effort.
The strong interest in working in Redwood
while a student made moving to Sonoma County a natural choice.
Having paid his way through college doing carpentry
and woodwork he continued in that trade
while never losing site of other creative impulses. "I choose to create"!
Art, furniture and home enhancements are on the list of
works
performed with personal style. Additionally, architectural elements, from traditional forms to shaped
and sculpted pieces are implemented.
~ Family Life ~
Bill and his lovely wife, Victoria, have
lived in the Cazadero hills in a modest "off-the-grid" home of his creation for over
twenty two years. So, in a way, those solar panels add
a bit of sunshine to every piece executed with his tools and under the lights.
Their fabulous daughter, Sylvia-Marah Bouné, who was
raised there, now lives in Santa Cruz and is an aspiring
jewelry designer.
